The I Have A Dream speech contains a number of rhetorical devices. Through the use of these writings, he was able to break through to the minds of many people and give a new outlook. Three devices he used that were important are metaphor, repetition, and antithesis. Dr. King effectively uses metaphor throughout his speech. on page 1 line 7, he states "... millions of negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. He is speaking for slaves who were affected greatly by injustice. Page 3 line 4 says," Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred". He wanted our people to not use hatred to solve problems in order to get freedom. Repetition is a definite occurrence in the speech. Page 1 paragraph 2, he uses the words "One hundred years later". This directly emphasizes how 100 years after slavery was abolished, people are still not completely...
We also watched the speech in our 4th block class .While I was inspired by the man words I did not agree with them all. Some things I wished he could've worded differently,
